Suffolk is embracing the opportunities offered by the green economy. From its flourishing renewable energy sector on the east coast, to the drive to make Suffolk the greenest county, a range of activities are having a positive impact in businesses, schools and communities. Celia Hodson, Chief Executive of Choose Suffolk, the county's development agency, talks about why the county is uniquely positioned to prosper from a sustainable future.

Choose Suffolk

Choose Suffolk is the countywide public and private partnership, charged with enhancing and sustaining prosperity in Suffolk. The agency delivers a wide range of services, support and information to the county's business community, alongside promoting Suffolk as a premier destination in the UK for business, investment and tourism. It is able to gain a 'helicopter view' of the county and region, while also acting as a unique interface between the public and private sectors.

Environment

The environment has emerged as a key business issue. The urgency for action in the face of climate change has been accepted by many business leaders, with some setting ambitious targets to reduce how many greenhouse gases their companies produce.

At one level, protecting the environment involves business in doing things that are good for the bottom line - such as using less energy and wasting fewer raw materials. But the scale of change needed is leading some to look for more radical solutions - changes to products and to the very model of how the business makes its money
